After today’s blizzard conditions and 65 MPH winds one might wonder what’s to love about Nantucket in the winter. While the weather has been a bit chilly lately – Nantucket can be quite beautiful in the winter. The island is calm and quiet – a great place to escape to with that special person in your life for Valentine’s Day. Cozy up by a fire and then indulge in some delicious gourmet chocolates and sip on some bubbly. Sounds like a perfect Valentine’s day right? The since you probably have President’s day off – wake up early Monday morning – get a delicious pastry or two, some hot coffee before heading out to see how beautiful the island is in the winter. While many businesses close down for the winter months there are some restaurants that are open year round. Here are a few images we snapped while exploring the island last week.

We heart Nantucket sunsets. If you are planning a trip to the island this summer make sure you watch the sunset in Madaket. The last time we watched the sun set we also got to see four harbor seals frolicking along the shore! They were so darn cute.
Nantucket Magazines
Everything you need to know about Nantucket can be found in one of the many magazines you can find at the local grocery store!

The Three Bricks
I have to say one of the best times to visit Nantucket is after the 4th of July. The heart of Nantucket is clad in an onslaught of red, white and blue which makes for a spirited summer celebration with friends and family. A stroll up the cobblestone Main Street will lead you to these beautiful brick houses that there were built by whaling merchant Joseph Starbuck in 1837 (completed in 1839) for his three sons. They are fondly known as “The Three Bricks” by locals and if you wish to read up on the history of these dwellings you may want to visit the Nantucket Historical Association via www.nha.org

An Evening Stroll
Even at night, Nantucket streets are enchanted with New England charm. Here you can see a rose covered cottage that is just delightful. Who wouldn’t enjoy an evening stroll with the fresh ocean breeze, rose covered cottages, and good vibes of live music coming from some of the local restaurants?
Little Grey Lady
Ohh… what a lovely sight of the Little Grey Lady! Are you ready to plan your vacation to the heart of Nantucket?
