    Nantucket Reds

    Feb 18 2013 Leave a Comment

Winter has been long, cold, and rather stormy (gusts of 90 mile an hour winds and downtown flooding during Nemo) so lately we have been dreaming of warmer weather and thinking about taking out our Nantucket Reds.  Nothing gets us more exciting for summer than the thought of faded red.

Philip Murray started the Nantucket Reds trend many, many years ago and his signature coral red style has become a preppy trend worn by summer residents and local islanders.  Murray’s Toggery has been a Main Street fixture since 1945 and has been family-run almost from the beginning.  The cotton canvas pants were originally an adapted form of the uniforms worn by the New York Yacht Club.  One of the characteristic of Nantucket Reds is that they fade to a light pink as they age.  photo source: unknown
