The 29 India House is registered in the Library of Congress for its splendid preservation of New England design in the 1700’s. This historic home survived the 1846 Great Fire that destroyed much of the historic center. The home was built by Benjamin Swift in 1795, and was later the homestead of Nantucket whaler and merchant, Captain Albert Wood 1813-1884. After four generations the homestead opened in 1980 as a historic house bed and breakfast and has welcomed thousands of visitors every year. The guest rooms offer hotel services and accommodations in a small-inn setting, providing visitors with a unique Nantucket experience.
