The sign outside has a picture of a leather punch on it and leaves no doubts or ambiguity about the main purpose of this store. As you walk into the small shop the first thing that you notice is the smell of leather goods. I fell in love with this store when a friend of mine worked here for several years making leather bags, purses, and belts. Besides fine leather goods the store also has a menagerie of other fascinating things. Exquisite glass pieces and one of a kind Scrimshaw crafted by owner and resident David Masters, who is the only Scrimshander on the island to use color in his work. Using the finest Prehistoric Wooly Mammoth Ivory and oil based paints Masters creates true masterpieces resulting and heirloom pieces for you and your family. Beautiful lamps grace the ceiling and walls, while unique and distinctive clocks and time pieces add to the evocative and visual stimulation. A fine selection of silver and gold jewelry, brass or sterling belt buckles, (14k) Gold or silver cufflinks, brass money clips, and buck knives made in the USA round out an eclectic array of products. Perhaps an unusual and unexpected olfactory juxtaposition but a surprising pleasant one.
Craftmasters is a great place to visit in the fall and winter too… with a nice warm fire, friendly staff, and the smell of leather to greet you. A unique and anachronistic shop that will excite all of your senses and imagination.
