Located in town, Children’s Beach (a.k.a. Harbor Beach – off of Harbor View Way) is a good option for young children as it offers a variety of activities. Currently, the trees are in full bloom and you can see that people are already enjoying the park benches that overlook the beach. Children’s beach offers a playground, playing field, picnic tables and bandstand. The beach is small but does have lifeguards, restrooms, showers, and food service – all of which are very important with young children. There is picnic space on the lawn, and provides a nice space for mini soccer games, tossing a football, or a fun game of tag and the bandstand provides shade on hot sunny days. The playground is well suited for ages 1+ with bucket style and regular swings and two climbing structures with slides. The spider web climbing structure is great for children ages 3+. Free concerts and outdoor family movies are sponsored by Park & Recreation Commission during the summer. Most visitors with young children would probably prefer the Jetties Beach for swimming and playing in the sand but Children’s Beach is closer to town and is great for it’s playground and children’s activities. However, you should know that flotation devices are not permitted.
