    Eel Point

    May 18 2013 Leave a Comment

One of the best beaches to go to on Nantucket is Eel Point.  Located on the western end of the North shore – it is the best beach on Nantucket for collecting seashells (one of our favorite things to do).  Make sure to bring a bucket to fill as you will find some shells that you will not find on any of the other Nantucket beaches.

Eel Point is very remote.  You will need a Jeep with a Beach Permit to get there.  There are no lifeguards or restrooms on this beach so you are on your own. This beach  and is subject to tidal flooding so it is possible to get stranded out there if the conditions are right so be careful.  This beach offers great sunset views, second best to Madaket Beach.  You may also want to know there is lots of sea grass which is great for eels, hence the name – Eel Point.
