    Nantucket Daffodil Festival

    May 02 2015 Leave a Comment

The central event of this delightful weekend is the Antique Car Show and Parade featuring over 100 vintage cars decorated with sunny yellow daffodils and other creative embellishments like surfboards, whales, baskets, and cute little Minions – thanks to the Valero family! The classic cars lined the cobblestone Main Street from top to bottom three rows deep.

The weather was perfect with sunny skies and a slight ocean breeze. There was an abundance of yellow and green attire and delightfully decorated daffodil hats! The day’s festivities included English Stick Dancers, a family picnic and concert at Children’s Beach, the “Daffy” Hat Contest, a Children’s Parade, the Nantucket Garden Club’s Annual Daffodil Show, and my favorite the “Daffy” Dog Parade. The local stores participated in a window decorating contest that added even more Daffy goodness.

We heart Nantucket sunsets. If you are planning a trip to the island this summer make sure you watch the sunset in Madaket. The last time we watched the sun set we also got to see four harbor seals frolicking along the shore! They were so darn cute.

Top 5 – Daffodil Festival Activities

    Daffodil Festival Weekend – April 27th – April 29th, 2018

The Nantucket Daffodil Festival has grown into a full-scale celebration of winter´s thaw and this year everyone is ready for some beautiful weather and spring flowers. From early-April to mid-May, over three million daffodils of every color, shape and size will bloom on Nantucket Island.

The central event of this fun-filled weekend is the Antique Car Parade, showcasing over 100 vintage cars all decked out with sunny yellow daffodils and other creative embellishments.  Don’t miss their arrival on Main Street at 9:30 a.m on Saturday, April 29th. Vote for Most Authentic, Best Decorated, People’s choice & Best in Show and don’t forget to take some group selfies!

At 12:00 p.m., the antique cars wind through town to the charming village of Siasconset for the Annual Daffodil Tailgate Picnic, attended by visitors and locals alike.  Enjoy an al fresco lunch, relax by the sea, and mingle with both islanders and visitors. The picnics run the gamut from elaborate haute cuisine to traditional tailgate food. Didn’t prepare any food – grab some takeout fare but don’t miss the Daffodil Tailgate Picnic.  For a complete schedule of Daffodil Events visit www.daffodilfestival.com

    Top 5 Daffodil Festival Activities:

    1) Pick out a really cute outfit to wear to the Antique Car Parade and Daffodil Tailgate!

The weekend is characterized by the colors yellow and green – so look for these colors when deciding what to wear.  Shades of yellow and beige is also a great choice. Many people dress in a classic style but we suggest a comfortable casual attire that you will feel comfortable in all day!  Remember to wear comfortable shoes that will be good on cobblestones, sand, and lush lawns.

    2) Make your own Daffy Hat (just add a Daffodil or two) or Headband.  Many islanders and visitors make Daffy Hats which makes it that much more fun! If you’re not a hat person you may want to consider a headband like the one shown below.

    3) Make Pineapple Coolers.  Pineapple Cooler Recipe found on CountryLiving.com
Fresh lavender and lemon verbena add subtle depth to this refreshing drink. Simply add rum to make it into a cocktail.
    4) Prepare some yummy tailgating recipes ahead of time so you can fully enjoy the day of events.

    5) Dress your dog up in Daffodil attire and let him/her strut up Main Street in the Daffy Dog Parade. We love to see all the doggies decked out. Email us your pictures at info@heartofnantucket.com and we will post the cutest pictures!  Please include your dogs name.

The day’s festivities are rounded out by a family picnic and concert at children’s Beach, “Daffy” Hat Pageant, Children’s Daffodil Parade, the Nantucket Garden Club’s annual Daffodil Show, the “Daffy” Dog Parade, A Daffodil Marketplace, and Window Decorating Contest. We hope to see you and your families at the Nantucket Daffodil Festival this year!
