IF YOU ASK A LOCAL who’s spent a lifetime on Nantucket, they’ll tell you the best time to visit Nantucket is after Labor Day weekend, when all the summer tourists and college students return to the mainland. The island is much quieter, the traffic is more manageable, the weather is blissful, and there’s something close to magical about this small island, set like a jagged jewel in the Atlantic less than 30 miles off Cape Cod. The locals often refer to the island as “Paradise” and its true Nantucket offers an incredible amount of charm with its cobblestone streets, gray-shingled cottages covered in pink climbing roses, and miles of soft sandy beaches. All of the enjoyment is there for the taking, but with a lot less traffic and people and almost everything is still open. It’s a perfect time to unwind on island time….

Blooming Perfection
Nantucket Island has some of the most beautiful gardens in New England. Regardless of when you visit the island during the summer you will see some of the most beautiful window boxes and gardens you can imagine. When you return home you will be inspired to start your garden and plant your own window boxes.
The Jetties
A favorite place for visitors with young children. The Jetties beach has a nice long sandy beach, calm waters, the Jetties Beach Bar and Restaurant, and public rest rooms. Just a short distance from the town – this beach is popular for July 4th, the Boston Pops, and the annual sandcastle and sculpture event in mid August.
A Lovely Place to Shop
Looking for that special something to bring home with you? Well, Straight Wharf and Old North Wharf are filled with lovely boutiques, shops, and galleries that will make you want to come back for more. And when your tired of shopping – why not take a break for lunch at the CRU – a fresh and hip restaurant with delicious sea food and cocktails. After lunch enjoy a walk along the docks and check out all the lovely boats and fancy yachts.
Love of Fair
Nantucket homes are amazingly beautiful because most home owners just love to add lovely nautical décor as a nod to our Nantucket Whaling past-time. Just walk down almost any side street and you will find homes with scallop shell door knockers, sea shells in the window sills, Nantucket baskets filled with hydrangeas, pretty quarter-board signs that gives the home a special name (like the one pictured above). We love these extra homey touches that make Nantucket a special place to visit.
